An Okinawan beach party

Beach parties are an essential part of Okinawan life in the summer. Yesterday I went to one at Azama San San Beach on the south-east coast of the island not far from my home. Okinawan-Peruvian singer Lucy has been recording her second album – to be released in October – and a photo session for the new CD was combined with a gathering of friends and family on the beach. It was a glorious day with perfect weather and I was very happy to be asked to join the party along with my own family. Lucy was extremely busy as she and fellow musician Nao performed in the evening at a small festival in Itoman. My recent interview with Lucy is on the Features page of the website.

A wonderful and uplifting article. How I well remember the magic of the islands when I stayed on Ishigaki some years ago, visiting some of the nearby islands. This article brings back many memories if only of an island further south. One day, perhaps, I may visit Okinawa, for it would appear to be a real paradise….dream on….

  2. Great photos. Would you mind if we used the group photo on top for an article in our paper (Stripes Okinawa) about Okinawa beach parties?
