Okinawan music feature on NPR

At the end of September this year I was interviewed by NPR journalist Lucy Craft during a visit she made to Okinawa. She had originally planned to come to my house on the south coast for the interview but news of a rapidly approaching typhoon changed her plans and an earlier meeting was hastily arranged instead in Naha. The video of Shoukichi Kina singing a rather frantic version of ‘Haisai Ojisan’ is from the ‘Great Music Experience’ concert at Todai-ji Temple in Nara in 1994 and it features Ry Cooder among the backing musicians.
